Multiple Births

Vancouver Couple Welcomes Canada’s First Set of Sextuplets

Late last night, an informed source confirmed the incredible news – a Vancouver couple gave birth to six babies at a local hospital. These tiny miracles, four boys and two girls, were born between 25 and 26 weeks into their mother’s pregnancy, weighing about 800 grams each.

It is believed to be the first time sextuplets have been born in Canada, presenting both hope and challenges. Babies born after 24 to 25 weeks of gestation are generally mature enough to survive, but need prolonged intensive care. Premature babies also face a higher risk of complications.

The mother was under careful medical supervision at B.C. Women’s Hospital and Health Centre to ensure the best possible outcome for the babies. While the hospital has not officially confirmed the births, citing privacy policy, multiple sources have verified the news.

This remarkable event comes after the hospital recently made headlines for successfully delivering rare conjoined twins. It underscores the hospital’s expertise and dedication to ensuring the well-being of mothers and babies.

Multiple births, especially sextuplets, are extremely rare in Canada. The use of fertility drugs is often a contributing factor. In the United States, there are only six sets of sextuplets currently living.

As we await further updates on the condition of these little fighters, we celebrate their arrival and the tireless efforts of the medical team at B.C. Women’s Hospital and Health Centre.

Did you know that B.C. Women’s Hospital delivered a total of 12 sets of triplets and 1 set of quads in the year 2000? That’s 40 babies for 13 families! In addition, the hospital has delivered an impressive 144 sets of twins.

  • They sound like they are all so small. Let’s hope the doctor are able to work miracles and they all make history.
