Conjoined Twins Multiple Births

Groundbreaking Conjoined Separation Successful

In a ground-breaking, 12-hour operation at Bangkok’s Siriraj hospital, Pantawan and Panwad Thiyenjai, who were born connected at the liver and heart, have successfully been separated. This historic procedure, the first of its kind, has given the twins a chance at a healthy, independent life.

Despite being joined for eight months, the girls were able to undergo the surgery that had never before been achieved with connected hearts and livers. The hospital kept the procedure under wraps until they were confident in the twins’ chances of survival.

Piyasakol Sakolsatayathorn, the dean of Siriraj’s medical science faculty, expressed the significance of this achievement, stating that no twins connected by their hearts and livers have ever survived. This breakthrough marks a major milestone in medical history.

The twins’ mother, Usa Thiyenjai, 29, from Thailand’s Phrae province, expressed her relief and gratitude, stating her intentions to provide the girls with the best care possible. She also shared her concern about the possibility of future conjoined pregnancies, leading her to decide against having more children.

Thanks to the skill and dedication of the medical team at Siriraj hospital, Pantawan and Panwad have been given the gift of independence and a chance at a bright future.
