15-year-old Attempts Youngest Surgeon Record, Father Faces Consequences

Indian medical officials are expressing concern over a 15-year-old boy who is being praised by his father for illegally performing surgery on a pregnant patient. The boy’s father is pushing for his son to be recognized as the world’s youngest surgeon in the Guinness World Records book.

The Indian Medical Association was shocked and found the act unethical and illegal after viewing a video recording of the teen performing a caesarean section. The Secretary of the IMA, Dr. Vankatesh Prasad, confronted the boy’s father, who admitted that this was not the first surgery his son had performed and that he had been training him for the past three years.

If the allegations are proven true, Indian health officials may revoke Dr. K. Murugesan’s medical license and prevent his wife from practicing medicine. The Murugesan family owns a maternity hospital in Manaparai, where the parents oversaw their son’s operation on a 20-year-old woman. The state government in Chennai is investigating the alleged surgery and believes it to be a significant violation. The Murugesans could face criminal charges in addition to losing their medical licenses.

The family has not yet commented on the situation, but Dr. Prasad has stated that they showed no regret. He added that the Murugesans accused the medical association of reporting the tape to authorities out of jealousy towards their talented son.

It is important to note that the family is now claiming that the boy was merely assisting in the operation, after learning of the investigation and the negative response from the medical community in India.
