The quintuplets we reported on yesterday are said to be in serious, but stable conditions.

The girls, who arrived in Krakow, Poland on Saturday, arrived via caesarean section in the 27th week of pregnancy, each weigh just 800 grams.

Alina Niedzwiedzka, spokesperson at the hospital in which the quintuplets were born, says that the girls would have to remain in hospital for a couple of months, as they have caught an infection. They are now being pharmacologically treated and kept in incubators.

What surprised doctors was the fact that the girls were conceived naturally. Multiple pregnancies are in the majority of cases a result of hormonal treatment. According to obstetricians, quintuplets are born once in 52 million pregnancies.

In Poland, however, since 2003, there were as many as four quintuplet births – much higher than the average.
