I believe the title of this article confuses people on many levels. There is currently no way to prevent SIDS, as we do not know the cause. There are, however, ways of reducing the risk of SIDS.

While a fan will increase airflow for the baby, the underlying reasons of why the baby is prone to SIDS still exist. There are many different theories on what makes these babies more prone to SIDS than others. One theory, developed by Dr. Hannah Kinney, which involves a developmental brainstem defect in autonomic and/or respiratory control during sleep is one important theory. Other theories include the possibility of the infant having a Staphylococcus aureus (staph infection).

There are several other will known theories on the cause of SIDS. Until we know what that cause is, I would love it if we didn't see any more articles in the future claiming we may be able to "prevent" SIDS.
