Newborn found in Shoebox in Lobby of Long Island Apartment Building

baby feet Another newborn baby was found abandoned this weekend. This time the tiny baby was stuffed in a shoebox and dumped in the lobby of a Long Island apartment building.

The tiny girl was less than a day old when she was discovered by a man who heard a noise and peeked inside a Timberland work boots box Sunday evening.

Even though the baby appeared to be in good health, police are hunting for the mother, who will face child abandonment charges.

The infant was described as light skinned, possibly white or Hispanic, and was dressed in a striped one-piece outfit and another yellow onesie emblazoned with the word “bounce.”

She was wrapped in a blanket with elephants on it and wearing a white hat.
The umbilical cord was still attached to the baby and was tied off with dental floss.

Police say the new mom showed she cared about the infant by dressing her and leaving her in a spot where she would be found.

“She must have been concerned about this child,” said Timothy Jaccard, a police technician who responded to the scene. “(The baby) was left to be found. She was prepared properly.”

What a terrible way to enter the world. So many babies being abandoned lately. Almost an epidemic.
