Toddler Survives on Leftovers For 2 Days After Mom Dies

A three-year-old little girl showed to be very resourceful by surviving for two days by eating cheese and leftover lasagne after her mother suddenly died.

Shylah Silbery

Shylah Silbery, from Wellington, New Zealand, was found hugging her favourite toy – a teddy bear named Possum – when police arrived to check on her.

When he did not hear from his sister Lauren, with whom he talked to every night, Pete Silbery alerted the authorities and accompanied them to her house.  When they arrived they could only see Shylah inside but not her mother.

Police coaxed the toddler to drag a coffee table to the door so she could unlock the door.  Once inside she told them, “Mummy won’t wake up.”

“I can only imagine her in there for that long, trying to wake Mum up as well,” her uncle said.

‘She’s doing okay now.’ he continued ‘She’s still bubbly. When we lowered the coffin into the grave at the cemetery, though, she pointed at it and said, ‘Mummy’s in there.’ It was pretty heartbreaking.’

Following her rescue Shylah spent several days in a hospital recovering from dehydration and diaper rash.

Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy but don’t believe Lauren’s death was suspicious.
