Mexican Mom Pregnant With Nonuplets – 9 Babies!

Holy Dinah! Reuters is reporting a Mexican mom is due to expect a set of nonuplets, which is 9 babies.

The mom-to-be has been identified as Karla Vanessa Perez of the northeastern state of Coahuila, which borders Texas. Karla, who is already mom to triplets, had fertility treatments leading to the multiple pregnancy the news agency said.

Currently on bedrest at a hospital in the state capital Saltillo, she is due to give birth to six girls and three boys on May 20.

“It’s very early to think of names for the babies,” Perez told Notimex. “First I hope that everything goes well.”

If they arrive and survive, the nonuplets would be one of the highest multiple births ever recorded. Currently that title is held by Nadya Suleman, the California mom of octuplets born in 2009.

While this may seem incredible, being pregnant with this many babies is very dangerous.  After delivering her sextuplets in 2008 Jenny Masche suffered heart failure.  At that time her doctor said the heart problems were due to the huge volume of blood Jenny was carrying in her body while pregnant. When the babies were delivered, some the extra blood flooded out of her uterus and “stretched her heart and blood vessels to a very, very critical level.” Can you imagine the volume of blood that would be needed to nourish 9 babies?

Not to mention what it is going to cost to raise this family.  We hope that the babies arrive healthy and that the government or corporate sponsors are able to help out with some of the supplies.
