The American Cleaning Institute Asks Parents To Take The KEY Pledge

Since being introduced in 2011, single-load liquid laundry packets have been a hot topic in the media lately. Their bright colors and compact size make them attractive to little ones who aren’t able to differentiate between a candy and a cleaning product.  In fact, a study that was released earlier this year revealed that more than 700 U.S. children were hospitalized over the last two years for accidental poisonings from ingesting the dangerous liquid inside these packets.

The American Cleaning Institute® recently conducted a survey, which found that 86% of consumers are improperly storing laundry packets.

Liquid laundry packets are pre-measured packets of highly concentrated detergent, and just like other household cleaners, they need to be kept away from children. It’s important to make it a habit to always store liquid laundry packets out of reach and sight of children, and in their original package until they are ready to be used to prevent injury.

American Cleaning Institute KEY campaign

The American Cleaning Institute® is inviting you to take the KEY Pledge online for laundry safety at www.keypledge.com. It takes just seconds to take the pledge to keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of reach of children, and educate family and friends about the safe use and storage of these new laundry products.

  • Keep single-load liquid laundry packets out of the reach of children
  • Educate your family and friends about the safe use and storage of these new laundry products
  • You serve a key role in laundry safety

The American Cleaning Institute® (ACI), a nonprofit organization representing producers of household cleaning products, launched their KEY Pledge safety education campaign in June 2013, which continues its commitment in keeping children safe from accidental laundry packet exposures and injury.  Please visit their site for more information on how to take the Pledge.
