Brooke Shields hosted the Mercedes-Benz Bridgehampton Polo Challenge on Saturday and brought husband Chris and daughters Rowan, 4 and Grier, 1 along for the festivities.

Rowan looks like she is having a blast with Dad Chris Henchy, while Grier appears to be a little camera shy. I posted a second photo of Grier to show that she can be cute too!

Brooke Shields and her two daughters head out for some fresh air over the weekend in LA. They travel comfortably in their Phil and Ted’s sport double stroller.

I wasn’t sure what I thought of this stroller this first time I saw it, but Miss Grier Henchy seems to think it’s just fine. She catches a nap in the back while her mom exercises and sister, Rowan guides the way.

Many celebrities and their babies attended the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage Opening in Anaheim California yesterday.

The ride opens to the public today and it will surely be another big hit for Disney.

Submarines will once again be submerged in the sparkling waters of the Tomorrowland Lagoon where you become an undersea explorer, discovering colorful reefs, ancient ruins, and an erupting volcano! Plus, you’ll come face-to-fin with Dory, Marlin, Bruce the Shark and other characters from the hit movie. It’s a “must sea” attraction!

Brooke Shields has spoken openly about her experience with postpartum depression after delivering her daughter Rowan.

She says the disorder is more prevalent than anyone wants to admit, and that it’s time for legislators to pass legislation to help new mothers.

“There is an entire population of women suffering,” the actress said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

“And it’s time, I believe, for Congress to step in and prevent that, and actually save lives and save potential tragedy,” she said.

Shields made headlines last year when she acknowledged taking antidepressants after her first child was born – and Tom Cruise publicly criticized her for using the drugs.

She told Stephanopoulos that she experienced acute postpartum depression after the birth of her first daughter, and it was devastating to her family.

“I had gone through numerous attempts to have a baby, and then I finally did have this perfect, beautiful, healthy baby, and it all but destroyed me,” she said.

She said a bill being considered by Congress would be “an easy gift to give to women everywhere.”

I love that Brooke has put herself out there to help other mothers. It is important for both men and women to understand the importance of awareness about postpartum depression.

A great majority of new mothers, about 80%, will experience a mild form of “baby blues”, usually within a few days after giving birth. These feelings will usually resolve on their own and disappear over a few weeks time. Postpartum depression affects about 10% to 15% of new mothers. This type of depression can affect women who have never been depressed before. Approximately 50% of women who were depressed during or after their pregnancy will also experience depression during future pregnancies.

There has been no single cause identified for postpartum depression. In fact, many factors can contribute to it. They may include:

• hormonal changes
• disappointment in birth experience
• a sense of loss from no longer being pregnant
• level of marital satisfaction
• caring for a very needy baby
• lack of family and social support
• exhaustion
• family history of postpartum depression
• history of depression

If you feel that you have any of these symptoms (constant fatigue, lack of joy in life, social withdrawal from family and friends, lack of concern for self or the newborn baby, severe insomnia, overconcern for the baby, loss of sexual responsiveness, strong sense of failure and inadequacy or severe mood swings) please make an appointment with you doctor for them to discuss what is happening. They will have suggestions and possibly medications that will be able to help you start to feel like yourself again.

Brooke’s openness about her experiences let’s other women know that many new moms get postpartum depression and they shouldn’t be ashamed to get help.

Brooke, Grier, Rowan and a friend were seen out enjoying the nice weather at a friends house yesterday. Grier looks adorable with what little hair she has pulled into pigtails.

She rides safely in the Britax Decathalon (Tiffany), which is one of the highest rated infant car seats on the market. It seems to be the car seat of choice for celebrities because Violet and Deacon also have one as well.

We are a bit sensitive about photographing celebrities with their children. The kids are not part of the entertainment business and we understand that the parents what to keep them insulated from all of the madness. We have seen Brooke out many times with the children and she did not say anything today about not photographing them so it is OK. If she told us upfront not to photograph the kids, we would have respected her wishes.

She must just be proud to show off her 2 beautiful girls!

Life magazine has an interview with Brooke Shields where she talks about her postpartum depression, her beautiful daughters, marriage to Chris Henchy and her career.

Brooke, who was very open about her postpartum depression after giving birth to Rowan, said she didn’t have it after delivering Grier. She believes that her body was different biochemically because her second child was conceived naturally and not through IVF.

Here are some highlights of the interview.

On Postpartum Depression:

Depression is so smart—it uses all your references and patterns. From childhood, my MO was “Study until you can’t keep your eyes open, and you’ll get an A.” That’s what I did—I’d win the prize. [But with motherhood] I felt like I was getting F’s across the board. It was all so clear: [Rowan] wasn’t going to love me, I had to go away and not come back.

On her relationship with Tom Cruise:

I’ve known Tom since I was 15; he was in Endless Love. I don’t think I let anyone down by reconciling [with him]. I never changed my beliefs. I stand by what I wrote. So when Kate [Holmes, Cruise’s wife] called me herself to invite us to the wedding, it would have felt like a slap to say no. Our daughters were born the same day in the same hospital, so they’re connected too. We went because we’re friends, and it was an unbelievable event. And now we can go on with our lives.

On Her daughters:

Rowan has a sharp wit. She came out looking like a shark—she cased the joint. And Grier came out like “La-la-la!” With little fairies flying around her head. But I’m careful to not label them, because I don’t want to set them up as [those people]. But 24/7 with the kids? I don’t know how people do it. If my main job was just to be with the two of them, I would not be as effective. I would be short-tempered; I would be less appreciative. Like when they tell you how to play: “Be the princess, but not like that. Say this. No, say it this way.” After a while I’m like, “I don’t even have directors do that to me!” Some people just revel in it, and that’s beautiful. I revel in a different way.
