Update: Newborn found in Shoebox in Lobby of Long Island Apartment Building

Last Sunday night a newborn was found abandoned in a shoe box in the lobby of a Long Island Apartment Building.

The tiny baby, who was less that a day old, still had the umbilical cord attached to the baby and tied off with dental floss.

Yesterday police arrested the newborn’s mom. She has six other children, ages 8 and younger, and admitted to being addicted to cocaine during this pregnancy.

Xiomara Gamez, 24, who worked as a prostitute to support her drug habit, was afraid to go to a safe haven because of her undocumented status, police said. She moved from El Salvador 13 years ago.

At a news conference in Mineola, Det. Lt. Raymond Cote said Xiomara gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the basement of an abandoned house in Hempstead just after 1 a.m. Saturday.

She named the baby Pearl and left her at an apartment building where she knows Hispanic families live. Coverage of the story led to a tip from a man in Queens.

This story just gets worse with every piece of information that is released. I pray that a good family adopts this baby and never tells her about her crappy beginning.

After delivery, some babies who were regularly exposed to cocaine before birth may have mild behavioral disturbances. As newborns, some are jittery and irritable. They may startle and cry at the gentlest touch or sound. These babies may be difficult to comfort and may be described as withdrawn or unresponsive. Other cocaine-exposed babies “turn off” surrounding stimuli by going into a deep sleep for most of the day. Generally, these behavioral disturbances are temporary and resolve over the first few months of life.

Chinese Two-Year-Old Smokes A Pack Of Cigarettes A Day

Yes! You read that right. Tong Liangliang was taught how to smoke by his father, who believed the habit would alleviate pain caused by a hernia.

The toddler now smokes a pack of cigarettes a day and throws a tantrum if he can’t get his fix.

‘The father wasn’t aware of how serious the toddler’s habit became until the child began to increase the number of cigarettes he smoked per day’, China Radio International reported.

Tong received his first cigarette at the age of 18 months in a bid to reduce the discomfort caused by his hernia. The boy’s tender age meant he was too young to have an operation.

Ridiculous!!!!!

A. What is he smoking to cure pain?

B. My son had a double hernia operation when he weighed 6lbs…

This little guy could die from lung cancer before he’s old enough to start school. Someone needs to be taken away from his enabling parents and taken to rehab.

Crummy Parent Alert: Drunkin Father Found Pushing Baby Along Busy Road

The parental crumminess continues in New York.

A Long Island baby is now safe with relatives after authorities found her drunken father pushed her stroller along a busy road late the other night.

The 3-month-old was crying as her father “dangerously” pushed her stroller along Route 25 in Centerreach. Witnesses said he let go of the stroller several times.

To add to the excitement, the drunkin daddy took a swing at an officer before he was subdued with Mace.

Charges following the weekend incident include child endangerment, resisting arrest and harassment.

You can’t even say it’s good he didn’t drive because the outcome could be just as scary if he had let go of the stroller at the wrong time.

Teenage Mom Arrested For Driving Drunk While Breastfeeding

This may be the most RIDICULOUS story I have ever covered. The details are so unbelievable, they feel like an April fool’s joke.

A teenage UK mother has been arrested by police for allegedly drink-driving while unlicensed as she breastfed her five-month-old baby – after she almost crashed into a police car.

Police said they hit the brakes to avoid a collision with the 19-year-old woman’s station wagon as she left a hotel parking lot – and saw her drive off with the baby attached to one breast.

Once pulled over, she was ‘allegedly’ so drunk she was unable to give them a breath sample.

Apart from driving without a licence, she was also said to be driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

As you can imagine, police were “absolutely outraged” that someone would choose to do something so dangerous.

The baby has been placed in the care of relatives and the mom has been charged with:

failing to provide a breath sample
driving without a drivers licence in an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle
failing to give way
driving with an unrestrained child

Doctors Separate Abandoned Conjoined Twins

A pair of conjoined twins that were found abandoned under a bush with their date of birth written on a slip of paper, have been successfully separated.

The babies underwent a four-hour operation to be separated on March 10th. Their individual weights have risen to 4lbs 6oz and 4lbs 1oz respectively, which is considerably more than the 6lbs they weighed together when they were found.

The twins, who had merged blood vessels, liver and chest bones, are also the youngest pair of conjoined twins who had been successfully separated in the Chinese city.

Hospital staff believes that concern over heavy medical expenses caused their parents to abandon them outside the hospital just eight days after they were born.

They held a press conference on Wednesday and urged the parents of the twins to come forward.

Even though the fees to operate on the babies has now exceeded 100,000 yuan ($22,000), the hospital says that the parents will not have to pay.

Future operations will also be waived They include heart surgery for both and cleft palate surgery for one.

Because the babies were so small, the hospital paid extra for their surgeries.

Hospital officials said that the surgeons practised operating on rabbits at least three times before they dared to perform the surgery and the operation was divided into two parts.

The boys were separated at their abdomen and liver before their chest bones.

The operation was risky because the babies had no more than 240cc of blood in total, and a blood loss of 10 per cent or just 24cc, could have placed their lives in danger.

The good news is that the surgery was a resounding success and the babies are currently healthy and recovering well.

I personally hope these parents don’t come back for them. They need parents that are going to love them regardless of their condition.

I just wonder how this moms delivered conjoined twins without anyone knowing? There would be no way that two heads could pass through the birth canal simultaneously.

Crummy Parent Alert: Dad Robs Store With 9-year-old Daughter At His Side

Police are looking for a Washington dad after he held up a Mini Mart cashier at gun point with his 9-year-old daughter in tow.

Phone tips from people who saw the story on the news helped investigators identify the man as 42-year-old Robert Daniel Webb of Everett.

The night clerk gave the man less than $200. The robber told his daughter to leave. Probably not realizing what has happened, the girl skipped to the car outside.

“As far as we know, he’s a very loving father. But he’s making some very bad choices right now and has not realized the danger he’s putting her in,” said Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers.

Court documents show the desperate dad was found guilty of violating a protective order last year. Deputies don’t believe his daughter is safe in his care.

“He needs to, if nothing else, he needs to release his child so we can get her out of this situation,” said Myers.

This crummy dad is believed to be driving a silver 2008 Toyota Corolla with license plate 602-XQG.

Crummy Parent Alert: Father Leaves Baby Out In The Cold To Go Gambling

Emergency services rescued a baby early this morning after the father left the child in a car to go gambling.

Police, fire and EMS were called after Patrons of the Silver Dollar Casino heard the baby cried, while his father gambled inside.

“A car was found with the windows covered with blankets to avoid viewing from outside,” said police.

“Fire Crews gained access to the vehicle and removed a 21-month old male child from a rear child restraint.

Sadly, the baby had vomited on his clothing, (and was) very lightly dressed with no shoes or socks.

By the time crews reached the baby shortly after midnight, investigators believe the baby had been in the car for approximately six hours in temperatures that hovered around -8 Celsius.

The father has been charged with a criminal charge of abandoning a child and the baby has been seized by Child and Family Services.

I hope there are family members that can look after this baby and give it the love it deserves.

Mom Arrested After She Is Caught Breast-Feeding AND Talking On The Phone While Driving

A Kettering, Ohio, mom is in trouble with police after another motorist reported she was both breast-feeding a baby AND talking on a phone while driving.

Officer Michael Burke said Genine Compton, 39, was arrested with child endangerment after authorities traced her licence plate.

He said the woman told officers she was breast-feeding and couldn’t let her child go hungry.

However, Burke said the legal issue was that Compton had a child in her lap while driving, not that she was breast-feeding in public.

He said the child was under two years old.

If convicted, she faces up to 180 days in jail and a $1800 fine.

I’m speechless! Breast feeding while driving? Unbelievable!!

Phoenix Sun Player Jailed for Driving Recklessly With 3-Year-Old Son Unrestrained In Back Seat

Phoenix Suns Guard Jason Richardson was suspended without pay by the Suns after being jailed Sunday night for driving recklessly with his 3-year-old son unrestrained in the back seat.

He was booked on counts or endangerment, reckless driving, failure to use a child seat and excessive speed.

“I just want to apologize to everybody, teammates, my family, especially my fiancee,” Richardson said. “This is a tough time for me. I’ve been questioned as a basketball player, questioned as a person, but my fatherhood in question is tough, because I try to be the best father I can be and try to keep my kids out of harm’s way.”

Scottsdale police clocked Richardson, 27, traveling at 67 mph in a 40-mph zone. He then reached a speed of 90 mph in a 35-mph zone.

When he was pulled over the Suns player admitted he was speeding. That’s when the officer noticed that his son was not in a child seat in the back seat. He told the officer they were returning from dinner to his Paradise Valley home.

No impaired driving was suspected by police.

Richardson’s fiancee picked up their son, but he remained in jail for a few hours.

I am speechless…I would never dream of driving to the end of t he street without my son buckled into the best car seat I could find. Some people just don’t get it.

Crummy Parent Alert: Baby Found Outside Bar ‘Drenched in Beer’

A 7-month-old baby girl is now in the care of Child Youth and Family after she was discovered drenched in alcohol, in a car outside a New Zealand nightclub.

Concerned members of the public called police at around 4 o’clock this morning. Police said that the little girl was in the parked car with her 17-year-old father, who was intoxicated. She was soaked with beer and her mother was inside the nightclub.

The baby’s father has been arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour.
