Proud parents Georgina Ahern and her husband, Westlifer Nicky Byrne, had beaming smiles across their faces as they showed off their twin boys outside their local St Sylvester’s Church.

The sun shone brightly as Nicky and Georgina brought their precious twins into the church. Both babies were dressed in little white sailor suits, and did not seem remotely fazed by the cameras.

Nicky revealed how much the pair had grown – Jay was just 2lbs 13oz at birth and Rocco an even tinier 2lbs 11, he said, but as of last week they weighed a healthy bouncing 9lbs 6oz and 8lbs 11oz each.

The boys were born six weeks prematurely by Caesarean section at Holles Street in April and spent their first month in hospital.

“It’s a very special day,” said Nicky. “We’ve had three months off to get them home and see them thrive. It’s just fantastic. They grow so quickly, it’s amazing.”

Around 150 close friends and family packed into the picturesque stone church.

Thrilled parents Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina Ahern hold their newborn twins Rocco and Jay, while her father, the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, beams with pride.

The twins have just recently been able join their parents at home after needing to spend some extra time in the NICU. Rocco and Jay arrived six weeks early, by caesarean on April 21st.

Shortly after their birth the ecstatic 28-year-old revealed he would love them to follow in his musical footsteps rather than politics like their grandfather. “When Georgina was pregnant I used to sing to her and now the boys are born I am still singing to them,” said Nicky, who is clearly hoping his talent rubs off on the duo.

Rocco’s middle name, Bertie, is in honour of the Irish prime minister, while Jay Nick was named after Nicky’s dad. “I am sure Bertie will babysit his two grandchildren, he is well capable… there is no better man for caring for the two babies,” says the boyband star, who enjoys a close relationship with his famous father-in-law.

Congratulations to Westlife star Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina on the safe arrival of their twin boys.

Non-identical twin sons Rocco and Jay Byrne were born at the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin at 9.55am on Friday weighing 5 pounds 11 ounces and 4 pounds 8 respectively.

The highschool sweethearts are first time parents who were married in August 2003.

The couple released a statement saying:

“Nicky and Georgina Byrne welcomed with great joy the safe arrival of their twin sons Rocco and Jay born at 9.55am this morning in the National Maternity Hospital Holles Street, Dublin 2.”

“The couple would like to thank Professor Mc Auliffe and all the
wonderful staff at NMH Holles Street.”

Georgina’s father Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said this afternoon he is delighted about the news. Mr Ahern said he spoke to Georgina on the phone and hopes to visit her and the twins either tonight or early tomorrow morning.

The couple joins a growing list of celebrities that have had twins lately. Mia Hamm, welcomed twin girls on March 28, Marcia Cross, also had twin girls on February 21st, Patrick and Jillian Dempsey had twin boys on February 2nd, Diddy and Kim Porter had twin girls on December 21st and Diana Krall started the whole thing off on December 10th with the arrival of her twin boys. Wow!
