Madonna Given Approval To Adopt Malawian Toddler Mercy James

Madonna’s application to take home Malawian toddler Mercy James is reportedly set to go through after three appeal judges gave the adoption the green light.

The pop superstar is said to be “ecstatic” after learning officials in the African country have submitted reports recommending her as a mother for the three-year-old girl.

A source tells The Sun, “The paperwork is being typed up now. All recommendations are in favour of the adoption taking place. Mercy should start packing her bags. She’s off to America.”

Madonna launched a legal battle to adopt Mercy in April but her bid was rejected on the grounds that prospective parents have to be resident in the country for 18 to 24 months prior to an adoption.

Madonna, who had previously adopted a Malawian-born David Banda in 2006, subsequently appealed the ruling.

The final verdict is expected to be announced at Malawi’s Supreme Court of Appeal on Sunday.

Madonna arrived in NYC with adopted son David Banda, 2.
Rumour has it that Madge was looking to adopt a second child from Malawi, where David was born.

The uncle of that child has put the breaks on the move saying that he doesn’t want ‘ his daughter being adopted by a white person; and in particular by a woman whose idea of career advancement not so long ago was to let her bra straps down at the first sight of a camera lens’. (ouch!)

Madonna And Baby David Return to Malawian Orphanage

Madonna returned to Malawai with her adopted child, David Banda and Daughter Lola.

A reunion with Yohane, David’s biological father was scheduled to take place. He has complained he has no access to Madonna and struggles to get information about his son, who was placed in the Home of Hope orphanage after his mother died.

Children at the Home of Hope orphanage in the village of Mchinji sang songs for Madonna and her children during their visit.

Madonna is paying for a new clinic to be built in the village of Gumulira and is supporting efforts by aid groups to help improve food security and education there.

Notably absent from Madonna’s visit is husband Guy Ritchie, who decided to stay in London after an ongoing disagreement over plans to adopt another child.

The visit comes some six months after the couple signed interim adoption papers for Banda, who will stay with Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie for 18 months before a decision is made by the Malawian government on whether to finalise the adoption.
