Matilda Ledger enjoys the nice weather in Brooklyn today as she skips and jumps down the street.

The pre-schooler catches some good air while getting lift from her mom and a friend.

Michelle Williams and Matilda take an early morning stroll to get coffee at a neighborhood cafe in Brooklyn.

Heath Ledger’s family recently commended Michelle for doing an excellent job in raising his daughter Matilda single-handedly. The family gathered at an Australian beach to remember the star in an emotional ceremony a year after his tragic death.

At the ceremony Heath’s sister Kate went into rapture over Michelle’s contribution in bringing up Matilda, without seeking help from anybody.

“Michelle is doing an amazing job with our girl and together we will cherish every moment of her steps through life.”

Here are the highlights of the interview:

About Heath’s early passing:

“It’s so sad,” Michelle says. When she’s asked about how she’s been doing in the past year, she’s silent for a very long time. “I guess it’s always changing,” she says. There’s another pause. “What else can I say?” Her voice is breathy and fragile, and she takes a few gulps of air. “I just wake up each day in a slightly different place—grief is like a moving river, so that’s what I mean by ‘it’s always changing’.” She stops again. “It’s a strange thing to say”—her words unravel slowly, her eyes tear up—”because I’m at heart an optimistic person, but I would say in some ways it just gets worse. It’s just that the more time that passes, the more you miss someone. In some ways it gets worse. That’s what I would say.”

On the Paparazzi:

“It burns a fire inside of me, the s––– that I’ve seen people do to get at me or my daughter,” she says. “I won’t forget it, and I won’t support it. I don’t want my daughter growing up feeling spied on or threatened.”

On quitting acting to keep her life private:

“If it gets to the point where I can’t situate my life in a way that they stay away more, then I’ll drop a match on the thing,” she says. “I’ll be sad. I like to act. It’s saved my life over and over again. It’s given me a sense of self-esteem, self-worth. I have this thing that I’m in love with—acting—and now it has this baggage.”

On keeping Matilda’s life stable:

“I don’t want to work while she’s in school,” Williams says. “I want her to have a routine. I want the plainest, simplest, most ordinary, habituated routine possible. I just want to know what’s coming next.”

The two still live in the house that Michelle and late partner Heath shared when they were together.

A wake was held at a restaurant on a Perth beach where Heath had loved to surf.

Michelle arrived at the service at 12:30pm with Heath’s family in a convoy of four black vehicles.

The 90-minute ceremony also included a video tribute to actor.

Even though Heath and Michelle’s daughter Matilda Rose was not in attendance at the ceremony, musician Ben Harper performed a song he wrote for her: Happy Ever After In Your Eyes.

It is nice to see Michelle smile. Let’s hope she gets the time she needs to heal now.

“Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken,” Williams said in a statement released by her spokeswoman.Heath, 28, was found dead in his New York apartment on January 22. Although sleeping pills and other prescription drugs were found near his body, the exact cause of his death has not yet been established.

Williams, 27, said in her statement that Ledger’s spirit would live on through the couple’s two-year-old daughter.

“I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father,” she said.

“All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. “She will be brought up with the best memories of him.”

Michelle was in Sweden shooting her latest movie, Mammoth, when news of Heath’s death was reported yesterday.

The couple met while working on Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and split in September after three years together.

Matilda’s godmother, Williams’ former Dawson’s Creek costar Busy Philipps, was spotted at the house, as was Williams’ mother, earlier in the day.

From the smile on Matilda’s face, she is completely unaware of the what has happened. It makes me very sad to think that this adorable little girl will never be able to see her daddy again. I enjoyed seeing photos of the two of them together because you could almost see Heath glow when he was carrying her or pushing her in the stroller.

The Brokeback Mountain actor was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime, adding that prescription pills were found near his body.

According to NYPD a masseuse arrived at Ledger’s apartment and was let in by a housekeeper. When Ledger didn’t answer his bedroom door, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened it and found him unconscious. They attempted to wake him; when they couldn’t, they called 911.

We’re told when paramedics responded, the actor was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams — they separated in September, 2007.

There is much speculation around the circumstances causing Heath’s untimely death. The autopsy that is scheduled for tomorrow should hopefully provide the actors family with some answers.

This evening Heath’s family issued this statement:

We, Heath’s family, confirm, the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.

We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.

He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our families need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

A source told the New York Post newspaper, the two are creating identical bedrooms for their daughter in their respective New York apartments.

They are having them designed exactly the same so when she wakes up in Heath’s place she won’t feel displaced.

Michelle still lives in the brownstone that the couple shared while together. Reports suggest that the Michelle may be selling that home because it is too big.

Does that mean that she will have to create the same bedroom in her new house as well?? Probably…
