My husband and I must have spent the better part of an hour looking at the wall of monitors when picking one for our registry, not knowing where to begin.

So when we were given the opportunity to review the True Choice Premium Digital Monitor (P400) by The First Years we were happy our search was over. On arrival my husband couldn’t wait to get the monitor out of the box. I don’t know what excited him more – the sleek design or the 3 way communication feature.

Getting Started: Being new to this, we were pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy the system was to assemble – all we had to do was plug each of the units in and we were good to go.

This True Choice Premium Digital Monitor has all of the features you expect in a baby monitor including a night light, sound-light indicators, out-of-range indicator, low-battery indicator, volume control, connectivity indicators, either battery and plug-in options, as well as a wall mount for the child unit.

Additionally the First Years has also added some very cool features including a headphone jack, a belt clip (which my hubby loves) and a parent-unit finder. But one of our very favorite features is – rechargeable batteries!! For anyone who has children you know that it seems that every child item out there requires batteries so having rechargeable ones with this monitor is a huge plus!!

My husband particularly loves the three-way communication…allowing you the option to talk back and soothe your baby, or to talk to your spouse on the other unit – a feature he’s used quite a lot!

We both love the True Choice premium Digital Monitor and would highly recommend it to those parents and parent-to-be who are on the search for the perfect baby monitor.

Priced at a very affordable $80, this monitor fits into almost any budget and makes a great shower gift! – Tanya, Staff Writer

In fact, I remember being in a restaurant years ago and seeing a woman with her baby snuggled in a cotton fabric carrier. I watched her tie it and then place her baby in it. He looked so comfortable all wrapped up. At that time, I asked her what carrier she was using and it was a Moby Wrap.

Moby Wrap Inc. was incorporated in 2003 by parents who saw the need for a more comfortable, secure and versatile way to carry their infants while performing their daily activities. They are made from very soft, 100% breathable, soft cotton fabric (no synthetic fibers are used).

Today’s parents are aware of the physiological, psychological and emotional benefits of baby wearing. One of the things I love about the wrap is the ability to have skin-to-skin contact with my son, which was for me was very important as he was a preemie.

There are no buckles, snaps or other fasteners, making wearing the Moby simple and convenient. One of my girlfriends asked if it’s difficult to tie the wrap and my answer is very simply “No”. The majority of the holds use the Basic Wrapping instructions and take less than a minute to tie. The wrap comes with an easy to use detailed instruction manual of all the various holds and includes pictures. For those people who may still be unsure about how to tie the wrap they can go online to see instructions and video on how to tie the various holds.

A few holds that I have already mastered are the kangaroo, breastfeeding, cradle and my favorite – the Newborn Hug Hold.

We’ve all heard horror stories from our girlfriends about them, and if you’re anything like me, you went and sought out the best possible cream, lotion or potion to try and prevent such a thing.

While, heredity predetermines how our body reacts to weight gain and loss. Advances in scientific ingredient compounds offer us options to address these changes. During my pregnancy I tried out a number of belly creams, and stretch mark prevention lotions. One of the products I was the most fond of was the Noodle & Boo Glowology Perfecting Crème($62) for stretch mark control.

Noodle & Boo was founded by Christine Burger, after finding the need for children’s products developed for ultra-sensitive skin; the company offers a wide range of luxurious products for all ages. Newborns, babies and children with eczema and sensitive skin, and adults are all equally cared for by these products, in which every formula is hypoallergenic and clinically-tested to minimize the risk of allergic reaction. Formulations are also dermatologist-tested and pediatrician-tested.

The Perfecting Crème uses a sophisticated peptide compound to prevent and reduce stretch marks by promoting regeneration of proteins while reducing the effects of enzymes that destroy proteins. There are a number of things that I love about the Perfecting Crème; its ultra rich cocoa butter and avocado oil leave skin delightfully soft and smooth without being greasy – unlike many of the other belly products I tried which were very greasy and left a film like coating on my skin (and on my clothes).

While pregnant, I found I was sensitive to certain scents. I liked that this crème had a subtle, pleasant scent that didn’t set off my nauseousness.

For all the reasons above and the fact that I don’t have a single stretch mark I give Noodle and Boo Glowology Perfecting Crème a glowing 5 stars. I highly recommend it to other moms-to-be and am grateful for being able to be one of their testers.

Feel good factor: Noodle & Boo donates a portion of their profits to charity, the packaging is 100% recyclable, and they don’t test on animals. Ingredients are derived from natural resources and are ‘certified organic’ when available and safe to use. – Tanya, Staff Writer

*Thank you to Noodle & Boo for providing us with this sample to test*

Every infant tub I have tried has left something to be desired. But recently, my luck changed when I received the TummyTub to use with my newest baby — and I really wish I’d had this tub from the very beginning of my baby bath giving days.

When my first child was born, we lived in a small apartment, and since space was an issue, I bought a foldable tub… but it leaked. Next, we tried a small tub, but my giant son outgrew it in no time. The inflatable tub insert was bigger, but way too inconvenient to deal with. After we moved into our house, we bought a tub that we hoped would hold our giant boys until they could move into the actual bathtub. However, it is huge, requires tons of water to fill it up and is nearly impossible to empty without making a mess. Additionally, it took up way too much space no matter where we tried to store it.

The TummyTub solved all of these problems at once. Designed to provide a womb-like experience, the bucket like shape of the TummyTub is meant to make babies feel at ease, calm and secure while being bathed. The TummyTub is a compact, lightweight tub that uses very little water, it is easy to transport without sloshing or strain, is made of phthalate, BPA and lead free polypropylene, and is easy to store between baths. I’ve only used the TummyTub to bathe my 2 month old, but it can supposedly be used for children up to 35 pounds — and may then be used for toy storage, making it doubly convenient.

We first tried the TummyTub with my daughter several weeks ago, and we quickly decided to replace her huge tub with the cute little TummyTub permanently. Instead of looking quite adrift in the tub we had used for her brothers, she seemed quite secure and comfy. She was able to push up a bit with her legs, but after a few moments she settled in and just smiled. She seemed to enjoy herself, and we finished bathing her in half the time. Using less water is great, and so is being able to give her a bath on my own, without assistance. I can’t lift our other tub when it is full, but the TummyTub is super easy to move. I can carry it one handed, and the high sides prevent all of the puddles we usually have getting the tub back and forth from the sink to the table. The smaller size also means we don’t have anyone else trying to climb in with her, throwing things in for “science experiments,” or the usual accompanying mess.

In addition to the Original Clear TummyTub which we received from TummyTub USA, there is a Green, Sparkly Sparkling Pink or Blue model. Also available is The TummyTub Two-Step Stool, which may be used to raise the tub up to a height that makes it possible to sit comfortably in a chair while bathing the baby. The Two-Step Stool, which comes in three colors: blue, pink and green, may also be used later as a step stool and features a handy storage compartment. The website www.tummytubusa.com provides more details about the potential benefits of the tub’s design as well as the history of the tub’s origins in The Netherlands. Here you will also find links to retailers that carry these terrific tubs. The TummyTub is a great addition to any household with children. It is convenient, easy to use and comfy. You couldn’t ask for more in a tub. – Kiersten, Staff Writer

This is the perfect solution for parents who have kids with a ton of stuffed animals. Because we are short on space this bag has been on my radar for some time and after seeing it in action at a few trade shows, I decided that we should give it a try.

In anticipation of our animal bag’s arrival, I gathered all of our stuffies from bookcases, cabinets and shelves. It was a big pile, which made me wonder – could this small bag hold all of these furry creatures?

It seems that every time there is a special event some one gives one of my boys a stuffed animal. Over the years we have amassed quite a collection.

On arrival, the boys were really excited about this bag. When I opened it up and they saw the bright green fluffy exterior they wanted to jump on it right away.

Immediately I went to work throwing all of the bears into the bag. Amazingly, they were barely making a dent. So I went into our room and collected up some teddys I had from when I was younger. Still not full. Downstairs to the basement – getting there. It wasn’t until I had emptied every basket, bin and tote that I had filled the bag. Seriously? Every time I thought I had filled it up the boys would lay on it and make more room.

In the end we managed to stuff 10 large, 11 medium and 29 small bears into our animal bag, which was exciting for all. Them because it was a new place to play, me because all of those bears had been taking up precious space all over my house and now I was able to re-organize.

It was also nice that even though some of their best friends were trapped behind a mesh screen, if you position them properly they can always see them, thus displaying that they are ’safe’.

I HIGHLY recommend Boon’s Animal Bag to any parent who is looking to free up some space around their house. It’s double duty also makes an ideal gift idea as well.

For those who have more stuffed animals than us, there are sizes above our bag that will hold many more bears.

*Thank you to Boon for sending this over for us to review*

Space is a premium in my house and we need toys that are going to last, not just be fun for today.

The Vtech Sit-to-Stand Alphabet Train caught my attention because it can be used from 6 to 36months.

Out of the box little assembly is required. All I needed to do was pop the wheels and handle on and unpack the letters. We did this on Christmas Eve because we didn’t want to have to worry about it during the morning excitement.

Because my little one can’t yet walk, he tends to like stuff that he can sit at and play with like Play Tables and activity boards. This train has a side panel that features a book with six turning pages, five piano keys that teach numbers and colors and 4 spots to put alphabet blocks. A sensor detects which letter is in the spot. Flip it over and there is a picture of an object that is spelled with that letter.

For fun and easy storage, the train has a ‘chute’ at the top that kids can put the blocks into and the watch them slide into the attached carriage.

Early walkers can use the attached handle on the train to practice or just sit on the carriage and use the handle for steering.

In the few days we have had it, this toy has been hit with both kids. My older son actually sits with his brother and shows him all of the letters and pictures. Even though it looks a bit small once it’s put together, both boys seem to fit it fine when riding and playing.

I would recommend the Vtech Sit-to-Stand Alphabet Train to another parent who is looking for a great 1st Birthday gift or just something that will grow with their child.

*this toy was NOT sent for review. We bought it *

This stroller is Britax’ entre into the lightweight market. Weighing in at just 16lbs, the Blink has an impressive weight capacity of 55lbs.

We recently had the opportunity to give one a test drive. Here is what we found:

Installation:Out of the box, the Blink was almost ready to go. All I needed to do was pop the Canopy on.

Getting Started: Opening the Blink is a breeze. Just unlock the lever and then lock the frame in place with your foot. The whole stroller opens out and pretty much falls in place.

Features: Even though the Blink fits into the lightweight category, it has some great features that make it a good budget choice for parents.

For your child’s comfort, the Blink’s seat is spacious(13″ wide) and lightly padded. Both of my boys(4 years and 11 months) fit into this stroller comfortably. The seat to the top of the canopy measures a generous 25″, which could easily accommodate an older or larger child. The Blink also has an over-sized canopy and visor that offers excellent protection from wind, rain and sun. The canopy features a peek-a-boo window and a zippered storage pocket big enough to hold keys, a cell phone and a small wallet if necessary.

A baby could also sleep comfortably on-to-go by using the layback recline and adjustable leg rest. By doing this you can quickly create a comfortable sleeping position for your child that allows their legs to be elevated.

The Blink has eight 6″ all-suspension wheels that make pushing this stroller a breeze. Now that we’re into busy season at the mall, having a small stroller than can turn on a dime is a definite plus.

Like many others in this class, the Blink has limited storage. The mesh basket can hold a medium size diaper bag that won’t drag on the ground because it is supported by a metal frame. I like that the storage basket can be accessed from both the side and back(if the seat is up). This makes it easy for parents to get supplies out in a pinch.

Folding the Blink is almost too easy. “Use the carry strap to release the hinge lock, step down on the frame release pedal, and fold the stroller forward.” This truly is a one-handed fold and can be done while carrying a baby.

Travel Bonus! This stroller comes with a travel bag. I love this! Once folded it can be easily stored in the bag and carried with either the side handle or shoulder strap. This also great for parents who love to travel. Having the stroller in the bag will ensure that it won’t come back mangled if it has to be checked as luggage. Additionally, Britax has a carrying strap on the back of the stroller that is great for when you need to carry the stroller and a screaming or fussy baby.

I would recommend the Blink to anyone looking for a reliable stroller that won’t break the bank. Priced at just $149, it comes in 5 fun patterns that will appeal to most parents. We tested the Cowmooflage and it constantly gets comments from other parents while we are out.

If asked, the only thing I would add to this stroller is padding on the 5-point harness and maybe a place to put a sippy cup.

More information is available at Britax’s website.

I like that the game makes your child think before they swing. It will ask things like ‘only hit the red balls’ or the ones marked with the number 8. Making each game both fun and engaging.

Just like the Wii, the sports attachments are made of foam. This, along with the wrist strap, will ensure that a flying bat or golf club won’t do permanent damage to your TV or a child who is sitting close by.

The only hitch I found with this system was trying to keep my eager little man positioned so that the sensor on the base could read the one on the sports handle. The game is position sensitive, which is a challenge when you child is jumping around swinging and flailing the club.

Fisher-Price recommends this system for kids aged 3-7, I think 3-5 may be more appropriate because some of the tasks may not be challenging enough for someone 6 or 7.

Fisher-Price’s 3-in-1 Smart Sports system has been a big hit with my son and a bit of a life saver for me. It gives my energizer bunny an outlet to burn off some of his energy on a rainy or crummy day.

Last year Infantino introduced a new Pre-school line to their already extensive collection of toys.

Geared towards kids aged 12 months and up, this line of offers a lot of great toys that could strengthen important developmental skills like hand-eye coordination, creative play, Independent Play and fine motor.

This cause and effect toy’s bright colors and animated noises have been a hit with my youngest son. He goes from one side to the other making everything move and shake.

To make the Carnival work, kids can press down the plunger to hear the popcorn ‘pop’, hammer the platform to make the elephant hit the bell, flip the switch to make the guy leave the cannon and twist the knob to teeter/totter the lion.

This all-in-one activity center is nicely designed for little ones. I like that there aren’t any small parts and that everything is just the right size for tiny hands.

I would recommend this collection of toys to anyone who is looking for a great gift idea that is reasonably priced.

It goes away for a couple days and then comes back.

I have tried a half a dozen different creams to clear it up, but nothing has seemed to work longterm.

During a recent visit with MD Moms, it was suggested that I might have some success with their Baby Silk Soothing Bottom Relief.

Initially, I was skeptical because up to this point some of the creams I had tried actually made the rash worst.

The ladies assured me that, at the very least, their diaper cream would soothe his bum, but never make it worst and they were right!

Unlike other diaper creams, this lightweight lotion smooths on white and then turns clear. It’s not thick or sticky, just light almost like a hand cream.

After just 3 applications, I started to notice a difference in the color of my little guys bum. By the second day the rash was gone. Now I only use the Baby Silk on occasion as ‘maintenence’ to keep as pinkness from going out of control.

They say you shouldn’t use diaper cream with cloth diapers because it ‘creates a barrier on the inner material and causes the diaper to repel instead of absorb moisture’. Because it doesn’t contain lanolin, mineral oil, petroleum or waxes, I have found Baby Silk’s Soothing Bottom Relief to be safe with the cloth diapers I use and would be comfortable recommending it to another cloth diaper mom.

This is another MD Moms product that will be a staple in my house. From the sunscreen wipes to the liquid silky powder. We love everything that they make.

Additional Features:

Contains no phthalates

Clinically tested & hypoallergenic

Made in the USA

No animal testing

*Thank you to MD Moms for providing this great product for sample*

New this year, Fisher-Price has introduced toy line called Stack n Surprise. These fun blocks feature a center piece that pops up to reveal a smiley face when stacked.

My favorite set in this collection is the Stack ’n Surprise™ Blocks Songs ’n Smiles Sillytown™($50) This toy is not only cute, but it is big enough that both of my kids can play with it at the same time. It’s 4 play sections all encourage kids to make things happen and foster an understanding of cause & effect.

My boys love all of the lights, songs and motion. The Songs ’n Smiles Sillytown comes with 8 peek-and-pop action blocks and plays over 16 songs and fun sounds. The workbench in the middle, which is activated by batting the roller, is super cute because all of the people play peek a boo, whether the blocks are stacked or not. Flipping the blocks to make the music go off and racing the car(included) down the track were also a hit with my 2.

I like that all of the toys can be stored under the ‘house’ when they’re not playing with it. It also comes with batteries to get you started right away.

Fisher-Price recommends this toy for kids 6 months and up and I agree. It is perfect for a newly sitting child because it is close to the ground. There are also a bunch of other toys that are included in this collection that fit into every budget. The smaller sets would make great stocking stuffers for little ones.

Pros -Encourages eye-hand coordination and enhances fine motor skills
Cons – doesn’t fold up for easy storage

Other Toys in the collection:

Weighing in at just under 17lbs, this compact, easy to operate stroller is a great fit for parents who need a product that will accommodate their growing needs. From birth it can be used as a travel system with an infant seat, then a regular day to day stroller that folds up nicely for traveling.

For the last few weeks we have been testing it from one side of the country to the other!

Here is what we found.

Installation – Out of the box the Si was pretty much ready to go. All I needed to do was clip on the storage basket and open it up.

If you have problems, the Si also comes with a great booklet that shows you everything your need – step by step.

Getting Started – Unfolding this stroller is really easy. All you need to do is unclip the lever on the left side of the stroller, give it a bit of a shake and then lock the bracket in the back.

Comfort and Features – The Si offers a lot of great features not normally seen in this stroller weight class. For safety, it has a five-point harness with the 2010 version adding a bumper bar. There is a 3 position(almost flat) seat recline, height adjustable handle bars and a 2 position foot rest.

For older children, the Si has a good size seat (13inches wide) and a high canopy that will keep taller toddlers(up to 45lbs) comfy without brushing their head. When opened fully, the Si’s canopy offers some of the best coverage I have seen on a lightweight stroller. Moms who want to keep track of their little ones will also like the peek-a-boo window.

Underneath the seat is a good size storage basket big enough to hold a large sized diaper bag. The only problem with this is that the basket will drag if your bag is too heavy. For this I suggest you strap your diaper bag to the handle bars and use the storage basket for lighter purchases, if out shopping. This works well if your child stays in the stroller. But not so great if you need to carry your baby. Because the stroller is so light, a weighted handle will cause the whole thing to tip backwards once your child is removed. While this sounds simple, it’s easy to forget. I have tipped this stroller quite a few times leaving the mall trying to rush.

Travel System – 2 cables that come with the 2009 version stroller allow the Si to be converted it into a travel system. While Peg Perego strollers are normally only compatible with the Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 Infant seat, the Si will accept most car seats that have a belt path on each side.

Folding – To avoid confusion, Peg Perego has numbered the two levers needed to close the stroller. I love this! No guess work – just pull here first and then here. Once closed, this stroller stands independently and it also features a carrying strap on the side.

This makes the Si a dream to travel with.

Cleaning – While on a recent trip, an unfortunate event ended with a whole breakfast landing on the seat of the stroller. Surprisingly enough, for the amount of food that landed on it, the stroller fared quite well. But when I got home and started to take it apart to fully clean it, I was surprised to find that it doesn’t come apart. It looks like it comes apart, but it doesn’t, unless I wanted to get into unscrewing stuff, which I don’t.

Improvements – With anything, there is always a wish list of thing you would like see improved.

I personally would love Peg Perego to make a good cupholder. The tiny one that comes with most of their strollers doesn’t many beverage cups, including my re-usable water bottle. Also, having some part of the seat come apart for easy cleaning would also be a bonus for parents who will be using this stroller everyday.

Overall, I like this stroller and I would recommend it to any parent who wants a nice looking stroller that can go anywhere.

This one-of-a-kind blanket is not only soft and cuddly, but it features grommets along 3 sides for parents to attach it to a stroller while out.

Every mom knows how hard it is to keep the toys inside the stroller. It’s a Game! Lil’ Tag Alongs solves this problem. Just attach your child’s top 3 or 4 toys with links to this blanket and then attach the blanket to the stroller.

While you stroll through the mall or park, they can play with all of their favorite stuff, without you having to worry that something will get tossed and you won’t see it.

We have the small blanket (15″ x 17″) , which is designed to fits most light weight strollers. It clips onto the frame easily and doesn’t drag if it flips over the side. My youngest likes that he has so many toys to choose from at a time.

Our Lil’ Tag Along blankie stays attached to our stroller and I rotate the toys so that my son doesn’t get bored.

This would be a great gift for a mom-to-be. It’s not something she would think of, but definitely something she would appreciate having – especially now that it’s starting to get cold.

This follow up to World Animals is not only well done, but it includes some great features that cater to kids of all ages.

Parents now have the option of playing the movie straight through or tailor their experience to meet their child’s schedule.

The select-a segment feature gives you the opportunity to choose a 5 or 10 minutes segment OR a compilation of the fun puppet shows.

The Grow with Me feature ‘enhances the DVD with language and new puppet shows that grow with baby’.

While both of my boys are very fond of Baby Einstein, they prefer the animal DVDs. Before this video arrived, the original World Animals was the standing favorite at our house.

This new version adds new animals not seen in this series before like manatees, llamas, camels, the snow monkey, the arctic fox and Meercats,

Also new are a long list of cute new characters including horses, zebras, pandas, seals and Koala Bears. Most of which are parent and child.

As a parent, I noticed this Baby Einstein has nicer camera angles, probably as a result of all of the great ‘Earth’ footage Disney filmed. The extreme close-ups and high angles made for a nice view for mom and dad as well as for the kids.

Closer to the end, both kids liked the Caribbean-like song, that encourages kids to get up and dance around. The little one enjoyed the music, while our older son mimicked what the kids on the screen were doing. This is great segment to combat ‘digital kid syndrome’. For us, it is also a nice way to transition into a new activity after the video has finished.

As always, Disney delivers a timeless video that allows both of our kids to watch the TV together and enjoy what they are seeing on different levels. I highly recommend this DVD for animal loving kids.

Thank you to Mom Central for providing us with a copy to preview.

Caring Corners has followed up their hugely popular play house Mrs. Goodbee with a personable camper named Daisy Greenway($35). This bright pink, interactive play mobile features a pull-out cabin with bunk beds and a movable slide, a restroom, a kitchen with recycling bins and a dog feeding station, a pull-down TV, removable captain’s chairs, and a flip-down grill.

As soon as Daisy arrived in the mail my son immediately went to work and within just a few minutes he had figured out every feature she was loaded with. Along with the camper, we also received a couple family members(not included), who proved to be perfect for role playing.

The nice part for for us was that both our boys (1 aged 4 and 1 – 8months) played together with Daisy for quite some time. This was the first time we had ever seen the two of them share a toy and not fight.

Even though our little testers were not of the genders the camper was created for, all of the basic principles still applied. Many of Daisy’s features could work for boy action figures as well as a family or small-ish Barbies.

I like that some of the characters created for this toy promote some sort of wellness; Dad is walking the dog, a teenage daughter is shopping with a recycled bag and there is even a tandem bike with a trailer on the back to tote little ones. They normalize activities we should all do, but don’t always get to.

Also available for the Caring Corners interactive toys are a grandma baking cookies, a baby in a highchair and a mom hauling groceries in a shopping basket.

Just like Mrs. Goodbee, the rearview rewards panel on the back of the camper rewards eco-friendly behavior. Kids can earn stickers by doing simple activities like, turning off the water while they brush their teeth, packing a trash-free lunch, turning off the lights when they leave a room or helping you plant a garden.

As with anything, my son’s playtime came with future recommendations. Three things he would like to see changed are to have the drive/passenger doors open, to have the hat come off and for Daisy to come in a Blue (without the flowers)!

Regardless of her color, this interactive camper offers enough play options to keep kids busy for hours. Sometimes my guys love to just sit and push her horn to hear her ask questions and watch her lights flash.
