Meet Zambi The Baby Elephant

One of the best toys we saw in NYC was Zambi The Baby Elephant.

This adorable pachyderm was created as part of Habro’s PROJECT ZAMBI, a global cause initiative dedicated to raising awareness and supporting programs that help care for the estimated 15 million children who have been orphaned as a result of the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

It features soft and cuddly ears and feet that are covered in a special fabric pattern designed by boys and girls from Zambia in one of the communities dedicated to caring for children orphaned by AIDS.

Like the other animals in the Furreal Friends line of plush pets, when you play with Zambi he will play, blow kisses, raise his trunk, and trumpet his elephant call. He also has a sensor on his trunk, so he can hold onto your finger and “shake” your hand.

Hasbro has committed to donate a minimum of $500,000 (in U.S. dollars) to the PROJECT ZAMBI Fund, part of the Hasbro Children’s Fund, in 2009. This fund will benefit programs that help make life better for children orphaned by AIDS in Africa. The company hopes to expand this global campaign to include additional Hasbro products and brands in the years to come.

Toy Fair 2009: Tiny Love

Tiny Love has always been known for their original, innovative baby toys.

This year they have introduced some products that will benefit babies while they are playing around the house or while they are out with mom and dad.

I like that each product has an element for every developmental stage and that the company’s website outlines the benefits for your baby at each stage for each toy.

This is a great resource for parents because it helps them know what things to look for when their child is playing with these and other products.

Here are our picks for 2009:

Clockwise:

  • Musical Nature Stroll
  • Island Stroller Set
  • Sweet Island Dreams Mobile
  • Music Take-Along Arch
  • Nature’s Serenade Mobile

Toy Fair 2009: Playmobil

Playmobil is known for it’s incredibly realistic kids play scenes.

They create some of the most elaborate toy re-creations of places we visit in real life.

Here are some of our favorites:

The Suburban House:

  • This two-story house with attic windows that tilt, expendable marquee, garden, a functioning doorbell and grill.
  • Also available is a backyard and many room furnishings.

Featured Product Review: Medela Freestyle Breastpump

My number one piece of advice for new moms who will be breast feeding is to get a double electric pump. It is the quickest most efficient way to express your milk.

For the last few weeks, I have been using the Medela Freestyle Breastpump to help me pump off what my son doesn’t use at the end of the day and I have to say that I’m in love with this pump.

When designing this pump they have left nothing out. Medela has created a product that is not only easy to assemble and operate, but it surprisingly quiet compared to other products I have used.

Here is what I found:

This pump weighs less than 1 pound and can fit in the palm of your hand. It features a digital display LCD screen, that is backlit for those late pumping sessions and a memory button so that you can save your favorite pumping pattern for the next pumping session.

The rechargeable battery makes it convenient for moms who need to use the pump at work, but can’t always be near a power source. It allows for 3 hours of pumping time per charge.

Even though I don’t have a lot of milk to pump off at the end of the day, this pump does it efficiently. The first 2 minutes of the cycle mimics the quick sucking that your baby does to bring your milk in and then it kicks into ‘let down’ mode, which is a longer, stronger pumping motion that really gets your milk out.

Now that my milk is established, I don’t wait the 2 minutes. A let down button allows moms to put the kick into the longer sucking mode sooner than the two minutes if you need it. The Freestyle can pump 5 ounces off in just over 6 minutes, which is impressive at 4 am.

Busy moms will also like that a convenient hands free accessory kit ( belt, belt extension, hands-free straps hands-free adapters and bra adapters) has also been included to allow you to pump while reading a book or checking your e-mail. The pump attaches to the belt to fit around your waist, with the horns attaching to your bra for a true hands-free experience.

Medela has included a discreet tote bag to keep the pump in when you are not using it. The inside of the tote has many different compartments to accommodate diapers, wipes and other baby gear as well as your pumping equipment for a day away from home.

Jellybean Apparel Gives Your Pregnancy Some Personality

One of my favorite parts about being pregnant was wearing clothes with cute pregnancy sayings.

Jellybean Apparel is an Etsy retailer that creates some adorable pregnancy T - shirts.

If I was pregnant again, I would wear one of these three.
