Rooware is an adorable, eco-friendly collection of tableware for children which features cartoonish characters called Earthsavers to encourage environmental awareness at every meal. Made of sustainable, plant based, as opposed to petroleum based plastic, the Rooware collection is BPA, phthalate and PVC free and available in a kid-friendly, colorful range including rooplates, roocups, roobowls and rootencils.

Both compostable and biodegradable, Rooware is a earth conscious alternative to the ubiquitous plastic tableware products on the market. Created by a mother of four who wanted to be certain her children were using healthy, green, and fun eating gear, Rooware also boasts the conveniences of being microwavable and dishwasher safe.

Available in four character varieties to pique the interests of both boys and girls: Lexie, Kai, Jaz and Zach, the Earthsavers featured on Rooware tableware will soon appear in an animated cartoon series to be launched next month on the Rooware website. The baby bottle giant is currently shipping to Babies R Us, Target and Amazon, with other stores that sell Avent products to be stocked by the end of this year.

Avent is doing their best to fill orders in all areas, but the company told us that not all stores currently have the product.

The bottles are available in 4oz($10) and 9oz($10)sizes with an 11oz coming by the end of the year. Parents who would like to save a bit of money can purchase a double pk for $18.

*Bottles with BPA in them are still available in many stores, parents should look for a honeyed colour bottle with the Avent Logo on it*

This issue has been something that most don’t believe is true. Infact, 2 members from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association defended the use of these bottles during one of my posts stating,

The scientific consensus is that polycarbonate plastic baby bottles are safe. There shouldn’t be any room for confusion or fear on this.

FDA has confidence that no safety concerns exists for BPA in regulated food contact materials. Furthermore, FDA has determined that the polycarbonate-based baby bottles and BPA-based epoxy coated cans used to hold infant formula is safe.

Regardless of what the JPMA and FDA think, the Canadian Government is concerned enough to announce today that it intends to ban the import, sale and advertising of baby bottles with the controversial chemical bisphenol A.

“Although our science tells us that exposure levels to newborns and infants are below the level that cause effects, we believe that the current safety margin needs to be higher. We have concluded that it is better to be safe than sorry,” Health Minister Tony Clement said.

Several major retailers – including Canadian Tire, Sears Canada, Wal-Mart Canada, Hudson’s Bay Company and Rexall Pharmacies – have already pulled products with BPA from their store shelves in anticipation of today’s announcement. Retailers say demand is drying up for baby products with the controversial chemical.

I love it!! It is about time that someone, besides California, took a stand and said if there is a possibility that this chemical could cause issues – we don’t want the future generations of our country being affected by it.
