Every Parents Nightmare: Drunk School Bus Driver Passes Out at the Wheel

Could you imagine finding out that your child was on a school bus that was found stopped in the middle of a street because the bus driver was drunk?

Well this is exactly what happened in Tennessee today.

An East Tennessee school bus driver was found passed out behind the wheel, with 30 students were on the bus, 18 of them high school students and the rest from middle school or younger.

A blood alcohol test was administered but the results were not immediately available.

The Loudon County Emergency Management Agency noticed the bus stopped for an extended time, Police Chief James Webb said, and police were notified. No one was hurt.

Wayne Honeycutt, director of schools, said the driver has been on contract since last November with a clean record. He said she has had a background check and passed two drug screenings.

The driver, 48-year-old Vicky Lynn Kwasny, was taken to a hospital and then jailed where she remained this evening.

UPDATE: Kardashian, 24, was processed into the Lynwood, Calif., jail for women at 10:36 a.m. and released at 1:29 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

Everywhere I turn today, the whole world is going on about Khloe Kardashian ‘turning’ herself in to a Los Angeles County jail to serve her time for violating her DUI probation.

Since the story broke earlier this week, there have been pictures of the brunette having her last lunch, last evening out and last shopping trip before she serves her time.

Seeing this has made me believe that the media has lost all perspective on the offence this girl has committed.

She drank too much alcohol and then drove her vehicle, an offence that causes someone to be killed every 39 minutes.

MADD reports that in 2006, an estimated 17,602 people died in alcohol-related traffic crashes. These deaths constitute 41 percent of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities in the U.S.

After she serves her 3 days in jail, she will emerge a hero and will be offered modeling gigs, spokesperson opportunities and probably TV or movie cameos.

While there are no statistics on how many families have been destroyed by drinking and driving, I can guarantee you that every person out there has either lost someone or knows a family that has been pulled apart by this selfish act.

I certainly know that you wouldn’t support that person, so why do we allow those in Hollywood who commit this offense to become more popular?

More Trouble For Richie Sambora

People is reporting that prosecutors have recommended Richie Sambora be charged with DUI and child endangerment – both as misdemeanors – after he was found driving under the influence with his daughter and another child in the vehicle on March 25th.

Last week, Laguna Beach Police handed over the case to the Orange County Calif. District Attorney’s Office, which has not announced any formal charges yet.

“Because the case is under review, I can’t discuss the details,” DA spokeswoman Farrah Emami said “Ultimately, we have to base our decision on the available evidence.”

If Sambora is formally charged with both misdemeanors, a jail sentence is likely, legal experts say.

“Assuming Sambora was driving with over a .08 blood-alcohol level with a passenger under 14 in the car, he’s looking at probable jail time,” says veteran DUI lawyer Lawrence Taylor, who’s not involved with the case. “But it’s possible this can be plea bargained to a lesser offense, and/or he could get rehab in lieu of jail.”

As sad as it is – both charges are fitting. Richie and other parents who drink and drive need to know that there are consequences. He is lucky no one was hurt.
