A ton of celebrities, along with the children, attended the 3rd Annual Kidstock Music and Art Festival at Greystone Mansion this afternoon in Beverly Hills.

“I thought I would be so excited to get back to work, but I feel bad that I’m leaving her,” says Giada, 37. “She’s out of the ‘blob’ stage of just eating and pooping. She’s starting to become a person; I see her character and personality coming out. And now I won’t be around that much.”

Giada has already started grooming Jade to be her assistant:

“She hangs out with me in the kitchen in her swing,” says De Laurentiis. “I’ve gained a partner in the kitchen, as little as she is. It warms [my] heart like nothing else.”

She already can’t wait to share her culinary traditions. “

The first thing I made with my parents was pizza dough,” De Laurentiis recalls. “That’s the first thing I’m hoping we can make together.”

The new mom hopes that her daughter will share her passion for cooking, and if she doesn’t, the she admits, “it would break my heart.”

Parenthood, of course, does come with its trade-offs: “I’ve gained a lot of joy … but lost a little of my freedom,” the chef admits. But she still has found ways to spend time with her husband, clothing designer Todd Thompson, 44. “Quality time now comes at a different time,” laughs De Laurentiis. “We hang out with each other at 4 or 5 a.m., giving Jade her bottle.”

“She smiled for first time yesterday!” she gushed at The Second Annual Kidstock Music and Arts Festival in Beverly Hills. “It sounds so corny – and I remember my friends telling me and me being like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,’ but it’s so special. Especially when you’re sleep deprived and all you do is change poopy diapers, it’s so great to get something in return.”

Always be on guard for smiles

“I was telling my husband before I left, you have to make sure to watch her all day, because she will give you the biggest smile when you least expect it.”

Giada is well known for her talents in the kitchen so it wasn’t a surprise that the new mom is going to be adding a baby/toddler section to her new cookbook.

“People have been asking me for years to come up with kids’ recipes and doing all that because I have a lot of kids that watch the show. And I’m thinking, ‘I’m not a mom, not my thing, leave that to the moms.’ And now, I’m so into it!”

But the one person who may not be as into it? Her husband: “[He's] like, ‘No more puréed food, thank you very much!’” explained De Laurentiis. “Because I try all the recipes out on him first, so then we’ll see if Jade likes them.”

Aww! First smiles. Every parent remembers the first time their baby smiled.We can wait to see some updated pictures of Jade.

She is the first child for Giada, 37, and her husband of five years, clothing designer Todd Thompson, 44.

“I always want steak – lots of steak,” she told PEOPLE at DeVito’s South Beach restaurant in Miami on Saturday night during the South Beach Wine and Food Festival.”I used to crave sweets before I got pregnant. You know, chocolate, cookies, cake. I’ve normally got a really big sweet tooth, but not now this baby just wants meat,” she said.

“You know, I think this is the time to indulge myself,” De Laurentiis said. “It’s such a wonderful time, so I’m eating what I want.”

The mom to be also discussed her changing body and the excitement about expecting her first child:

“I couldn’t be more excited about being pregnant,” she says. “She can’t get here soon enough. I can’t wait to meet her.”
