More sadness today for Amanda and Thomas Stansel after their fourth sextuplet was disconnected from life support last night.

According to the couple’s blog, Ashlyn had been fighting a nasty form of pneumonia call Yeast pneumonia for about a month.

On Saturday night Amanda wrote:

Ashlyn is not doing well at all. Her kidney function is getting worse. She is in renal failure and this is making the edema worse. The doctor said that her kidneys are beyond the point to where they could get better. They are just too far gone. They had to increase the ventilator settings to provide more support. She is just not doing well overall. This has been so hard. It hurts to see her so sick. We hoped and prayed that she would get better, but it is just not the Lord’s will for her.

The decision to withdraw care was made last night after the tiny baby’s oxygen saturation had dropped into the 50’s and 60’s(a healthy person’s O2 Sat’s are usually 99). The lower the number, the more oxygen needed from the ventilator to compensate.

Thomas and Amanda welcomed their sextuplets just over 2 months ago, weighing between 12.3 ounces and 1 pound, 2 ounces at 23 weeks gestation. Just a couple days after their arrival the couple lost Dallin and Katelyn, followed by Braden a few weeks later.

While this has been a rough journey for the couple they are still very optimistic about the 2 remaining babies; Hailey and Rachel.

Amanda blogged that:

• Haley is now weighing in at four pounds even and is 14 1/2 inches long. Haley I think has surprised the doctors with how well she is doing especially after having surgery 3 days ago.
• Little Rachel(pictured with Amanda) continues to grow and flourish each day. She weighs 3 lbs 7 oz and is 14 inches long. She is tolerating her feeds very well, she continues to eat like a champ. She loves to lay on her belly, she does much better with her oxygen saturation’s on her belly than her back.

We hope and pray that Haley and Rachel continue to grow and develop, so that we can bring them both home some day soon.

I also hope that they are able to bring these two girls home as well. Because both babies are still vented, they may just be home in time for the Holiday Season.

Just 7 months after their amazing entrance, the 3 surviving Nigerian sextuplets are being handed over to an orphanage tomorrow.

Hospital officials say they have no choice. The babies mom, Amudat Bello, passed away shortly after their arrival and their father, who ran away after they were born, has renounced his paternity and given up his rights.

During their stay in the NICU the hospital’s management opened an account for the infants at a local bank where people and organizations could donate money for their upkeep.

Now that they are well enough to go home, they will be discharged tomorrow to a local orphanage.

It’s all very sad. These babies have survived so much. At birth some weighed as little as 600gms. Now they will live in a facility where they could be split up in order to be adopted.

Their birth holds the record of the highest number of babies delivered in one birth, in Nigeria. There have been two other cases of the birth of quadruplets.

These are the families that need support. Not the ones living in million dollar houses.

This morning at 7:30am Texas couple, Amanda and Thomas Stansel welcomed their sextuplets.

Very few details are available about the babies right now. The couple posted this statement on their website:

The babies made their unexpected arrival last night around 7:30. Although the babies came much earlier than hoped they are all doing remarkably well for their size. We continue to be amazed by their fighting spirits. We will update as things calm down a bit. Amanda was running a temperature and had an elevated white blood count. She is a trooper we are all impressed by her stamina and strength. We appreciate your prayers in our behalf. We feel them and are blessed to know all of these matters are in God’s hands.

From the timeline the couple was providing on their website, the babies are 23 weeks gestation today.

Amanda was hospitalized at around 18 weeks for closer monitoring because that was when she had previously lost her twins.

This Thursday night WE TV gets in on the ‘mega multiple’ hype with Raising Sextuplets starring Brian and Jenny Masche’s 6 children.

A four-person crew has been filming the Masches for the new series since the kids were just a few months old. (It follows up on “OMG! Sextuplets!” — a documentary on Jenny’s challenging pregnancy that premiered a year ago, and re-airs just before the premiere of Raising Sextuplets).

“It ended up being a lot of fun,” says Jenny by phone, with her husband and their kids in proximity. “Around five days of each month, when the crew was around, we got a little break from the routine, we got to have some friends around _”

“_ and a few extra hands,” added Bryan gratefully.

Since the Masches admitted cameras into their world, other series about multiples have flourished: TLC introduced “18 Kids and Counting” and “Table for 12.”

The couple addresses the differences between their show and Jon and Kate plus 8, which has recently burst into a tabloid spectacle.

“At first, the Jon-and-Kate stuff made me scared,” Jenny acknowledges. “I was thinking, ‘Omigosh, why are we doing this?’ But then I started thinking, and praying, and I realized that so far it’s been a real blessing for us.”

She says during her pregnancy, she had gotten phone advice from Kate (whose sextuplets just turned 5). She calls the harsh publicity and marital discord plaguing the Gosselins “sad and heartbreaking.”

“We need to not only learn from others’ mistakes, but have some boundaries put in place, and pray for wisdom that we can stay strong and united,” says Jenny, who wed Bryan in 2004. “We really have to focus on our marriage — because it’s hard.”

WE tv President Kim Martin says “Raising Sextuplets” is different from its by-now-notorious predecessor because, quite simply, the Masches are a different family.

“Jenny and Bryan are grounded,” Martin says. “They are nice people raising six kids in a really healthy environment.” And they draw on a community of friends and extended family, she adds.

Whether or not the series continues for a second season, the Masches’ support system has been assigned to give them regular reality checks, says Jenny, to help insure TV exposure doesn’t lead the family astray.

“We don’t pretend to be high-and-mighty,” says Bryan, whose wife agrees: “We told everyone around us, `If you EVER see us going in a certain direction that isn’t right, hit us! Put us in our place!’”

The show premiere’s Thursday night at 10pm on WE TV with Bailey, Savannah, Cole, Grant, Blake and Molli celebrating their second Birthday.

A bikini clad Kate Gosselin enjoyed the beach on Bald Head Island, SC this weekend with her eight children, nanny and two security guards.The family has been spotted all over the island that features upscale cottages, a golf course and lighthouse with the only modes of transportation being golf carts and bicycles.

They are staying in a rental cottage while they shoot scenes for their reality show.

A mom in Belfast Northern Ireland has given birth to the country’s first set of sextuplets at the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital.

The four girls and two boys, who weighed between 1lb 7oz and 2lb 2oz, are believed to be conceived naturally, without the aid of IVF.

The babies were delivered by caesarian section and were 14 weeks premature.

The amazing 5 minute birth was attended by 30 medical staff.

Neonatal consultant Clifford Mayes said the six babies were in intensive care and doing as well as could be expected for arriving so early.

The babies’ parents have requested that the family’s privacy is respected and they will not be available for photographs.

Just ‘Kate plus 8′ head to the party store yesterday to get some supplies during the filming on an upcoming TLC episode of their hit TV Show, most likely for the sextuplets’ birthdays, which was last Sunday.

In true Kate fashion, all of the kids, Cara, Mady, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel are dressed the same right down to the shoes.

The four boys and two girls arrived at 25 weeks, which is three months early, and weighing in at about a pound and a half each.

At first their delivery was kept a secret while doctors worked feverishly to make sure the infants all lived.

Now 5 months later, all six babies are home and keeping the family on their toes.

“They’re all doing just fine,” their beaming father Victor Carpio said as he sat on his living room couch, cradling Jaden in his arms and feeding him with a bottle.

Six empty bassinets lined up in two neat rows took up all the floor space in front of him. In a corner of the cluttered room was a 4-foot high stack of boxes filled with baby formula.

“That’s enough supply for just three of them,” Digna says, pointing to the stack of formula boxes.

She seemed tired and overwhelmed and fought back several yawns in the first interview she and her husband have given since the babies came home.

“It’s not easy to find time for sleeping,” she said.

Luckily, the city’s Administration for Children’s Services has stepped in to supply the family with two home health care aides. But that service is only available during daytime and is only expected to last for the first six months.

Every day after 6 p.m., mom, dad and their only other child, 7-year-old Jhancarlos, are on their own.

As you can imagine, feeding all six babies is a challenge for the couple. Victor and Digna always get up in tandem each night for feedings and put the babies in a line on pillows with their bottles propped with towels.

“Burping them is the biggest problem,” the busy dad says.

The Carpios say the nurses at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where the babies were born, did a terrific job training the infants to a feeding routine.

“They all wake up at the same time every four hours, and once we feed them they usually go right back to sleep,” Digna Carpio said.

Even simple things such as traveling have become a challenge, since the only car they own, a Toyota 4Runner, is too small.

“Whenever I leave the house with the babies I have to pack a suitcase like I’m going out of town,” Digna Carpio said. “This month alone, I have four hospital appointments for them. If we all go, that means six babies, me, and the two home care aides, and that means two cars.”

For now, the three cribs — with two babies assigned to each — are all neatly arranged in one of the three bedrooms of the small brick home the couple bought in Whitestone two years ago.

Many families who have had sextuplets have been given help from outside organizations. This family didn’t run a ‘help us’ campaign even though that is exactly what they need.

Amidst rumors that they are headed to splitsville, Jon and Kate and their eight kids appeared on Oprah yesterday to update her on how things have been going and offer some advice to a family that is about to welcome quadruplets.

Since their last visit the sextuplets turned 4 years old and started preschool. The family moved into a new home and took a special trip to Hawaii, where Jon and Kate renewed their wedding vows in front of their eight children.

And if eight isn’t enough…they recently welcomed two new members to the family, puppies named Shoka and Nala.

During filming fo their popular tv show, Kate keep’ some semblance of order in their Pennsylvania home by having everyone follow a few strict rules.

1. Cameras aren’t allowed past the island in Kate’s kitchen.
2. Shoes off. Crew members shoot footage for the show in their socks.
3. No filming in the bedrooms. The kids—and parents—need privacy.
4. Typically, there’s no shooting on Sundays because the entire family goes to church.
5. If there’s something they don’t want to be filmed, the Gosselins can put up their hands or ask the cameramen to go away.

Jennifer and Kevin, a couple from San Antonio, Texas, appeared via Skype to ask Jon and Kate for some advice. Jennifer is pregnant with quadruplets—two boys and two girls—and the couple already have two other children!

“I would say it’s definitely doable,” Kate says. “As our babies were coming home, I remember when we got up to four—we brought two and then one and then the fourth one home—things started to get a little hairy. But I’ve always said, ‘Between us, we have four arms.’”

Kate says parents of multiples may also need more time to bond with each child. “I can honestly say, looking back, it took a full year until I felt solely and completely bonded with each of my babies,” she says. “You don’t have enough time in the day to sit and do that bonding.”

While there’s never enough time, sleep or money, Jon says he wouldn’t change a thing. “That was our decision [to keep all the babies], and we would never take it back ever,” he says. “Never regretted it.”

In addition to the advice and update, Oprah also posted a lengthy excerpt from the couple’s book Multiple Blessings.

In a sad turn, the young mom that just delivered 6 tiny babies in Nigeria has passed away from complications associated with the delivery.

Ajoke Bello, 32, gave birth to the six babies by Caesarean section operation on Thursday and was initially in a stable condition.

But she developed complications from excessive bleeding at hospital in Sagamu, Ogun State, south-west Nigeria.

The naturally conceived babies – three girls and three boys – were in a stable condition, said medical officials.

The new mom died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital yesterday morning.

Professor Femi Ajayi, the chairman of the board of the hospital, confirmed her death to the Nigerian Tribune newspaper:

“It was an unfortunate incident.

“The doctors and nurses at the hospital put in their best to ensure that the woman lived.

“She was under close monitoring as the medical team did not leave any stone unturned to ensure that she was alive.”

Charity groups have been making donations for the upkeep of the 6 babies.

This mom also has 2 other children and her husband reportedly ‘fled’ after the news of the sextuplets arrival.
