Cloth Diaper Trials Pt.3

So…I guess I was not the only person thinking that buying cloth diapers from the second hand store is a good idea. I went there today because I had see a bunch the last time I was in and there was nothing! The sales clerk told me that they are very popular and I should call every couple of days to see if any new arrivals came in.

This is impressive. I thought that I was a lone ranger on the cloth diaper thing, but I guess I was wrong. It feels good knowing that there is a demand for cloth diapers and not everyone is loading up the landfills with disposables.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that not everyone has time to clean cloth diapers. They take extra time and commitment that some people just don’t have.

I really just wanted to buy 1 or 2 diapers to see if they were right for him. I didn’t want to buy a 5 or 10 pk just in case I wasn’t fond of them or they were too big and bulky. Kushies, the only ones they had, only came in a 5 pk so… I thought….let’s give ’em a whirl. We got the diaper tub, the liners and the diapers.

Remember when cleaning cloth diapers, you should never use bleach, fabric softener or regular laundry detergent. I’m using Ivory but the box says not to use that either. I hope it will be okay for the first couple washes until I can get a different detergent. I guess I will try something that is made for sensitive skin.

Now that we are all pre-washed all we need is the baby. He doesn’t seem to care whether he wears cloth, paper or no diaper at all. These all-in-ones go on just like the disposables. There is nothing extra you have to except put them in water and 1/4 cup vinegar when the baby is done with them. This diaper is bulkier than his Huggies, but not too bad. All of his clothes seem to fit over top alright.

My only issue is that I am not confident the cloth diaper can hold up to a full night’s pee. I have still been using disposables at night until I can see what the diaper can do. One day down and many more to go…we’ll see what the next few days brings.
