It’s one thing for a baby to decide they’re going to arrive when you are stuck in traffic and can’t get to the hospital. Can you imagine how mad you would be to get all the way to the hospital, just to find out that the maternity unit is CLOSED??
A UK dad was forced to deliver his baby in a parking lot after he and his girlfriend found the maternity hospital’s 24-hour reception deserted and the doors shut.
The couple arrived at the hospital at 10:30pm to find no one there.
Philip Allison knew that they were in trouble when his girlfriend Vicky Kitching told him she could feel the babies head.
They were driven to the hospital in a friend’s Renault Laguna – and Mr Allison had to return to the car where he helped deliver his daughter.
He said: “The cord was wrapped round the baby’s neck, so I unwrapped it. I’d seen my last one born and I saw them clear the airways, so I cleared the airways too.
“I just felt scared. Once I could hear her crying and I knew she was awake, it was different.”
After the baby arrived, the couple had no idea where to go next? They were eventually able to get into the hospital and the baby is doing well, but after all is said and done Vickie described the experience on November 16 as awful. Can you blame her? The hospital has since apologized, saying they are concerned that, “for a few minutes, it would appear the security guard was not at his desk”.
