Virginia Mom Gives Birth On Jamestown-Scotland Ferry

As we’ve heard many times over the years – babies will come whenever and wherever they please.  One Virginia learned this on Friday night when her baby girl made her appearance on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry.

In labour, Anna Howard arrived at the ferry dock just before 11 p.m. She knew, however, she wasn’t going to make it to the hospital.

Thankfully deck-hand worker on the ferry boat Bill Bailey is a part-time Hampton firefighter with some training in delivering babies. He was able to use his training when baby JoyAnne arrived half way through the ferry’s voyage.

The 7-pound, 8-ounce baby girl was delivered around 11 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. She joins her three big brothers and father David Howard.

Oddley enough this isn’t the first time someone has given birth to a child on the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry boat ‘Williamsburg’. Back in 2015, another baby girl was also born on the ferry.
