The Earl and Countess of Wessex Have a Boy!

Prince Edward and Sophie, also known as The Earl and Countess of Wessex, have welcomed their second child earlier than expected. Despite a scheduled c-section for this Friday, the baby decided to make an early entrance.

Their much-anticipated son was born at Frimley Park in Surrey at 4:20pm, weighing a healthy 6lb 2oz. Although he has not been named yet, he will be called Viscount Severn. In an effort to maintain privacy, his parents have requested that he not be given the HRH title typically bestowed upon grandchildren of a reigning sovereign.

Edward, 43, and Sophie, 42, are committed to protecting their children’s privacy and want them to grow up away from the spotlight of royalty, all while remaining proud of their heritage. With the new addition, the baby will be 8th in line to the throne, bumping Lady Louise down to ninth and subsequently moving the Princess Royal to tenth.
