When Michelle Hall was pregnant friends wondered if she was expecting twins. As it turns out the baby she was carrying was big enough to be two!
Isaac Michael Hall was born Thursday morning at West Penn Hospital, weighing a healthy 13 pounds, 10 ounces. “His length is 25 inches long,” Michelle told CBS Local.
Michelle and Brad Hall’s first child, he may also be the biggest baby ever born at West Penn Hospital.
Dr. Andrew Sword says that in his 30 years of clinical practice, “We have never seen a baby of this size. And when I polled all the pediatricians from this hospital, some of whom date back to the early 1980s, there’s never been a baby on record who’s this size.”
During the last few weeks of Michelle’s pregnancy, doctors estimated Isaac would weigh between 9 pounds 9 ounces and 13 pounds 15 ounces, which prompted doctors to plan a C-Section.
“We knew the baby was going to be very large. As large as this? No. But at the same time, too large to deliver any other way,” he said.
Often babies born this big are due to the mom having gestational diabetes during her pregnancy. But in this case Isaac just grew to be a very big baby.
“It’s literally a naturally large baby, no other factors that we know of,” Dr. Sword said.
The Halls have had to bypass the newborn clothes they had got for him, instead he’s wearing 6-month sleepers and size two diapers.
Michelle also adds, “We got a frame where you can put the handprint and the foot. And I don’t think they’re going to fit.”
“There are babies that are this size at 3 months, 6 months of age, so he has a head start,” Dr. Sword
