This isn’t a sponsored post. We paid for everything ourselves, and I’m just sharing our honest experience.
When we booked our cruise on Icon of the Seas, we were looking for a cabin with a bit more room for our kids.
I originally booked an Ocean View Balcony, but I started second-guessing whether my teens would be comfortable with the couch/trundle bed setup for the third and fourth guests. So, we upgraded to the Infinite Family Oceanview Stateroom—a new category introduced by Royal Caribbean on Icon—and honestly, it ended up being the perfect fit for us.
Check out our Video tour:
And yes, I’ll address the elephant in the room: the lack of a traditional balcony. I know the infinite balcony gets mixed reviews, but we ended up really liking it. More on that later.
The Layout: Thoughtfully Designed for Families
Just inside the cabin entrance is the bunk area, which our kids absolutely loved. The space has two bunks set at different angles, each with its own TV and built-in storage. It quickly became their personal hangout whenever we weren’t out exploring the ship. Our youngest (who’s over 6 feet tall) didn’t quite fit the bunk perfectly but made it work. There’s a curtain for the top bunk, plus a larger curtain that gives the entire bunk area some added privacy. Tucked behind the stairs is a small reading nook with a light and a stool—plus a handy spot to stash your luggage.
A fun touch? The large chalkboard in the main room. My kids used it daily to sketch little doodles based on what we’d done that day. It was also helpful for leaving notes about where we were on the ship.
Split Bathrooms: Big Win for Getting Ready
This stateroom comes with two separate bathroom areas:
One with a toilet and sink (the larger of the two), and
One with a sink and shower.
The toilet/sink space quickly became our go-to for getting ready, while the second was used mostly when someone needed a quick shower. The sink in the shower space is a bit narrow, so we used it only when needed. Still, having two separate spots helped everyone get ready faster in the mornings without stepping over each other.
Smart Storage Everywhere
Royal Caribbean clearly put thought into maximizing storage. Behind the entry mirror is a hidden cabinet with a safe and shelves—perfect for storing toiletries, sunscreen, or even shoes.
The wardrobe has a longer hanging section for dresses or suits, and a shorter one for shirts and pants. Underneath are wire baskets for tees, swimsuits, and other quick-grab items.
In the main room, there’s a couch (which I believe can convert into a bed for a fifth or sixth guest—but ours didn’t). My oldest ended up moving to the couch halfway through the cruise because he found it more comfortable than the bunk.
There’s also a desk area with the phone, hairdryer, and an empty mini fridge.
Nearby is the TV, with some extra shelving underneath for small items like sunscreen. Midway down that shelving unit is a hidden charging station, which came in handy.
Speaking of charging, this cabin had outlets everywhere. Each side of the bed had one, plus extras in the vanity area, bunk zone, and near the TV. Traveling with teens, this was a game-changer. No one ever had to fight over a charger or USB hub.
The King Bed Setup
The king bed was genuinely comfortable, and the TV placement was spot on for winding down with a movie after a day of exploring.
The Infinite Balcony: Surprisingly Great
I’ll admit—I was unsure at first. But the infinite balcony really grew on us. Here’s why:
6 Things I Loved About the Infinite Balcony
- Extra space – Without a sliding door separating the balcony, the room just felt longer and more open.
- Comfy furniture – The balcony chairs were more lounge-style, blending the feel of indoor/outdoor furniture. Super cozy.
- No smoke wafting in – On past cruises, balcony neighbors smoking ruined the vibe. Not here. Because the infinite balcony is technically part of the cabin, smoking is prohibited and easily detectable.
- No noisy neighbors – We didn’t hear a peep from other cabins. It was peaceful whenever we had the window open.
- Total blackout – The window shade was amazing. Like “are we in an inside cabin?” level of dark. We could actually sleep in!
- Breezy nights – We loved cracking open the window at night for fresh air. Sure, the A/C shuts off when you do that, but the natural breeze made up for it.
This stateroom was a win for our family. It never felt cramped, even with four of us, and it had just the right mix of functionality and comfort. Add in how incredible Icon of the Seas is overall, and it’s safe to say we had an amazing cruise. Even my teens gave the cabin a thumbs up—and that’s saying something.
It will be interesting to see if the new ships Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas will keep the infinity balcony with this cabin or offer the bunk configuration with a traditional balcony.
