Multiple Births Parenting

One Busy Mom: 7 Kids Under 6

Imagine having four daughters under the age of four and then finding out you’re expecting triplets. That’s exactly what happened to Catherine Delegado, a 34-year-old mom from Swansea.

“I just burst into tears,” she said. “It was so much of a shock. I have ended up with seven children under the age of five – and we weren’t even trying for a baby.”

Catherine, who owns her own cleaning company, and her husband Juan, a maintenance worker, were completely taken aback. They have no history of multiple births in their families.

Their journey began in 2001 when Catherine discovered she was pregnant for the first time. She gave birth to daughter Madyson in 2002.

Not discouraged by the challenging labor, Catherine welcomed another daughter, Megan, in 2003.

And then came the biggest surprise yet. Catherine found out she was having twins in 2004.

“It was such a huge shock,” she said. “I just didn’t know how I was going to cope.”

Unfortunately, her twin pregnancy came with its own set of challenges, causing Catherine discomfort and limited mobility.

But the Delegados didn’t stop there. In 2020, they were surprised yet again when Catherine became pregnant. To their astonishment, the ultrasound revealed that she was carrying triplets.

Bedrest became a necessity as Catherine’s pregnancy progressed, and the couple anxiously awaited the arrival of their three new additions.

At 35 weeks gestation, against all odds, Catherine successfully delivered the triplets. They weighed between 4lb 11oz and 5lb 7oz and did not require special care. After just ten days, the babies were able to go home.

The Delegados have named two of the triplets already, Joshua and Brianna, and are still deciding on a name for the third baby boy.

The resilience and strength of this family are truly remarkable. Carrying triplets to 35 weeks is an incredible achievement, especially considering the challenges they faced along the way.
