Earl and Countess Of Wessex’ Newborn Allergy Scare

The Daily Mail is reporting that Earl and Countess of Wessex had a bit of a scare last night after they needed to bring their newborn son to the hospital for tests to diagnose an allergic reaction.

Five-week old baby James was taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital on Thursday by the Countess and was kept in overnight, for further testing the following morning.

According to family friends, doctors confirmed yesterday that he had had a minor allergic reaction.

They did not reveal what may have caused it but indicated that the condition was treatable.

“As any new parent will tell you, the first few weeks of a new baby’s life are real maelstrom so they were not taking any chances,” a source said.

“The good news is that it is nothing too serious. The doctors are happy with the tests.”

It sounds like he had a reaction to undigested dairy in his mother’s breast milk. It causes an irritation in the colon. Undigested lactose fermented by bacteria in the colon creates lactic acid and other fatty acids, sometimes causing blood in the stool.
