Tegu Recalls Magnetic Toy Over Risk of Internal Injury in Children

This week, Tegu’s Magnetic Floating Stackers were recalled after reports that those tiny, powerful magnets are coming loose. And when magnets end up in the wrong place—like a child’s stomach—the results can be life-threatening.

Tegu Recalls Magnetic Toy Over Risk of Internal Injury in Children

The recall, issued July 31, 2025, affects more than 22,000 units in the U.S., plus nearly 2,000 in Canada and 190 in Mexico. The toys were sold in stores and online between August 2018 and April 2025, and if you’ve had a toddler in your life during that time, there’s a good chance this popular toy has made its way into your home—or at least onto a gift list.

While no injuries have been reported so far, 31 incidents have been logged where the magnets detached from the toy.

The larger concern is that when swallowed, multiple magnets can attract each other inside the digestive tract, pinching or tearing tissue, blocking the intestines, or causing infection. In serious cases, emergency surgery is required. In the worst cases, the outcome can be fatal.

What Parents Should Do Next

1. Take It Away

Even if the toy doesn’t show damage, remove it from your child’s toy box. The magnets can come loose over time.

2. Check Your Model

There are two versions included in the recall:

  • STA-BGY-801T (Rainbow)
  • STA-BTP-806T (Big Top)

These toys include:

  • A wooden base
  • Six colorful stacking rings
  • Two vertical posts
  • Two character figures on top

There are no identifying marks on the toy itself, so if you’re not sure, err on the side of caution.

3. Request a Free Replacement

Tegu is offering a no-cost replacement toy for affected customers. Here’s how to get yours:

  • Call 877-Tegu-Toy (877-834-8869), Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET
