The Last Car Seat You’ll Need To Buy – Britax’s PINNACLE CLICKTIGHT

At 8 and 11, my kids are still in car seats.  So it’s safe so say we’ve bought a few over the years.

Years ago, convertible car seats only went up to 48lbs so parents were forced to purchase many seats over the years to accommodate their child at various stages of their development.

Debuted over a decade ago, Britax’s Frontier was a game changer for us because it was created for kids 2+ and allowed them to stay in 5-point for up to 80lbs.  When the Pinnacle was introduced a couple years later, it added more side impact protection.

Over the years the 5-point weight limits have been adjusted as car safety regulations change, but one thing that hasn’t changed is our love for this seat and it’s ability to keep my kids comfortable during long trips.

We recently received the Britax Pinnacle ClickTight for review.  This is definitely one of the best seats on the market for kids who are 25lbs(30″).   With top weights of 120lbs, it will take you through till college or when your child hits 62″.

I love that Britax packs SO MUCH into their seats for both safety and comfort.  Plus with the ClickTight(CT) system, the seat is easier to install than ever.

Here is our review!

Safety Features:

Designed for kids from 25 to 120lbs, the Pinnacle CT features 3 levels of protection for your child in the event of a crash.  The Side Impact Cushion on the exterior of the seat reduces side impact crash energy by diverting crash forces before reaching your child and providing extra protection for the adjacent passenger.

The seat’s shell and head restraint has ‘True Side Impact Protection’ with energy-absorbing EPP foam to distribute crash forces, shield from vehicle intrusion, and contain the head, neck and body while keeping them “in true” or aligned.

The base of the seat was created with Britax’s SafeCell Technology.  This keeps your child safe and secure in a crash by compressing and significantly lowering the center of gravity, reducing the forward movement of the car seat.

Additionally, integrated Steel Bars that run along each side of the seat frame strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash.

Ease of Use:

The Pinnacle CT features an easy to adjust system that can be done on the fly while your seat is in the car as your child grows. To do this you just need to pull up on the head rest with the red lever and loosen the straps with the actuator at the bottom of the seat.

The first time in the vehicle I have my son sit in the seat and we make all the adjustments in the house before the seat is installed.  This just ensures the seat is completely ready to go when we head out.

The Pinnacle CT can be adjusted to 9 harness height positions -up to 20.5”.  The crotch strap can be positioned to two widths, which is perfect as your child gets older.  Making this switch is easy and only takes about 30 seconds.

The harness positioners have grippers on the back to keep them in place and notches on the sides to ensure they stay aligned.

The seat also comes with two integrated cup holders and storage that give kids easy access to drinks, snacks and toys.

Installation:

I will fully admit that in our house I’m not the car seat installer. I tasked my husband with this job years ago because I believed he was able to get a tighter install than me.  With the introduction of their ClickTight system Britax promises that every parent(or grand parent) can get the same tight install every single time.  While following the manual to a tee I installed the seat for the first time and was shocked at how EASY it is.

Car seat installations are a pain point for parents because not every seat installs the same, which means there is always room for errors.

With the ClickTight System you just need to open the middle of the seat, feed the car seat belt through the green belt patch, lock it in place and close the ClickTight.  Secure the back tether and you’re on your way.

The procedure for LATCH is a little different so consult your manual before installing the seat with either of these methods. I am just paraphrasing here so please follow the manual during your official installation.

The bottom line is the whole process takes less than 5 minutes and the install has zero play.

We have been using the Britax Pinnacle for quite a few months and it’s been a hit with my son. Not only does it have a long list of safety features, it keeps him comfortable during long trips!
