Brash Ad For Nanny Claims That ‘My kids are a pain’

by in Crappy Parents, Nannies

When someone is looking for help, they sometimes sugarcoat the position or the situation. This is apparently not the case in Manhattan.

In an unusually honest ad for a live-in nanny, Rebecca Land Soodak, a mother of four wrote, “My kids are a pain,” in her August 19th advertisement on Craigslist.

She went on to say, “If you cannot multitask, or communicate without being passive aggressive, don’t even bother replying.”

Even though the ad gets better with the following excerpts, a 25-year-old University of Virginia graduate, committed to take care of Rubin, 12; Ellis, 9; and Shay and Cassie, both 6.

“I can be a tad difficult to work for. I’m loud, pushy and while I used to think we paid well, I am no longer sure.”

“If you are fundamentally unhappy with your life, you will be more unhappy if you take this job, so do us all a favor and get some treatment or move to the Rockies, but do not apply for employment with us.”

“Also, if you suspect all wealthy women are frivolous, we are not for you.”

“I have all sorts of theories on how to stack my dishwasher, and if you are judgmental about Ritalin for ADHD, or think such things are caused by too much sugar, again, deal-break city.”

While I respect that this mom would like the right match for her family, I think that the way she speaks in this ad is condescending.

It is very sad to hear that she thinks her kids are a pain.

wow! she makes the lady in the nanny diaries sound like an awesome mom! You can definitely tell she has money by her attitude, why wouldn’t she be more interested in calling the supernanny for help to rectify the “behaviors” and create a better home, instead of putting out an ad that basically states who she is and she isn’t going to change even if it is best for her children. I live in Va and I feel real bad for the new nanny from UVA. Poor girl is probably not going to want to have children after staying with her fam.! Maybe she can have the power to help this very lost, selfish mother. I think if she wants to consider herself such a great artist she needs to go back to school, her portfolio was not impressive. Some of her “portraits” lack taste, sorry but no one in their right mind wants a nude style painting of a child, yes baby butts are cute in photography, but not paintings of elementary aged children in that kind of fashion.
